Taiwan Itinerary At a Glance: Day 2

An early morning call at 6am and it was time to go. Washed up, packed up everything and had breakfast. Bus sets off at 7am.

First stop of the day at Yehliu (野柳地质公园).

Yehliu Park

The rocks structures here are formed naturally over time.

Rock Structures

And there is one that looks like a queen head.

Queen Head Rock

A statue that was erected for a hero that sacrificed his life to save an undergrad from drowning in the fierce wave.

Sunken Hero

Here is a plaque that describes how the rocks were formed.

Next, we went to Jiufen (九份). We had to alight from our tour bus and board a public bus up the hill.

Bus to Jiufen

Free and easy time. We walked along the streets picking up some little snacks here and there. It was here that I bought the "hand" (similar to the one used in 小气大财神).

Jiufen Street

After lunch, went to a temple call Nan Tian Temple (南天宫).

Nan Tian Temple

Significantly, this temple had statues of 妈祖 made from different materials, one is made from jade, one from gold and one which we normally see.

Different Ma Zu Statues

Before we left the temple, our tour leader (whom we called Xiao He) told us to touch the pair of lions on either side of the entrance to pray for a safe journey down the expressway to Hualian (花莲)

Lion Pair

After hours of travel, we arrived at Hualian, at a place where we would be watching a traditional dance performance by the 阿美族.

Southern Island Culture Theatre

The performance was spectacular but not that interesting.

Cultural Dance Performance

Went for dinner after the performance and the tour programme ended for the day. However our day did not end here. Xiao He brought the 3 of us to a place for prawn fishing nearby our hotel, which cost NT200 per hour. We tried for an hour and my tally was only 1... :(... Luckily, Stupid Genius caught a few and XH, even more.

Prawn Fishing

And here were our 战利品.

Captures for the Day

We ordered some noodles and vegetables to go along with the prawns. And of course not forgetting the beer.
