A bad day at the office?

What else can you say on a monday going back to work... Somemore my pc at the office is throwing tantrum like a child... Don't even know if the problem lies with the PC, the software or myself... Somtimes cannot save my work properly, sometimes can save but cannot run and test my work, others times seems working fine?! Really don't know what's wrong...

拜托你不要玩我好不好...

Quote of the Day

"Don't always go on the offensive and leave your defense open, this may backfire. Sometimes, you need a patient build-up in order to score a goal!"

An Eventful Night / Day?

Time: 1am

Went to bed at around this time... Thought it was going to be a peaceful night as usual, little did I expect the events would unfold in such a dramatic fashion (although it was not really so dramatic la...). I was sleeping quite soundly when I 'feel' that something is vibrating around me... and indeed it was my hp, in silent mode (oh and why did I put my hp so close to me?! Arrrgh, the radiation...).

Time: 2:25am

Rubbing my dreamy eyes, I took a glance at the hp's LCD display... realised that there was a missed call and 2 new sms-es, which were all from AJ... She told me that she had misplaced her keys (housekeys to be precise), and that she was locked out (cos her parents weren't around coincidentally). She suggested that we meet at the office the next morning to check if the keys were there (fyi, she put her barang barang at my desk the previous day). Still in a semi-conscious state, I called her to ask what had happened and that how/where is she going to spend the night. She told me not to worry and, knowing that she what an independent gal she is, I acknowleged and promised to call her again when I wake up the next day.

Time: 2:40 ~ 3:25am

As soon as I put down the phone, reality sets in... As my mind began to clear up, I became more and more worried. "Omg, where can a gal go in such a late night." And so I sms-ed her to ask for her location and offer my help, if any. She said that she is saddened by the events that had happened and that nothing can make her feel better. At this point of time, my anxiety really shot up sky high... due to the fact that I dunno her exact location (except that she was in the East) and that I was really helpless in this situation. In my anxiety, I told her straight about how i felt at that moment (due to some previous event, I dunno how my words would affect her, esp in such a situation)... but I couldn't care less... We exchanged a few sms-es before her reply fell short (i.e. no reply la)... In the spur of the moment, I decided that since there is really nothing I can do, I shall wait until the next morning... (how I wish i could have handled this better... "hello brain, can't you work a little bit harder...grrrh")

Time: 4am

By this time, my thoughts are running wild... usually I'm not one who think so much, but where AJ is concerned, this doesn't apply anymore... I was tossing and turning on my bed... thinking and thinking... before slowly dozing off...

Time: 5:35am

Woke up at around this time... and decided to wash up and head straight down to office...

Time: 6:40 ~ 8:30am

Reached the office and found her keys there. Called her a couple of times, but were all unanswered. So I left her a couple of messages. All I could do now is wait... and I can tell you this feeling is d*** bad...

Time: 8:40 ~ 11:15am

Decided to roam around instead of sitting down there and wait... I dunno where i'm heading but simply just walked and walked to keep myself occupied... Call JX at around 11am to ask if AJ contacted her... And finally received AJ's sms at around 11:15am... Felt like dropping a heavy stone from my heart (altough her heavy stuff are still with me physically...)

Time: 12:30pm

And finally meet up with AJ to pass her her stuff and keys... It was a brief meeting and I know not what to say... except to ask her if she slept well and tell her to rest well for the rest of the day... I'm really relieved at the sight of her... but how I wished I could have expressed myself better... I know I still have a lot of things to say to her but just couldn't spelt them out... And I'm not sure if I should call her up... (any kind soul wanna advice? probably not cos it's only I, me and myself reading this entry...)

Skating in the City

It certainly feels different to skate in town and in park... Went skating with JX and AJ last night at the Esplanade at around 8 plus. This is the 1st time I'm skating in a place other than a park, so it feels a bit strange, somemore i had to wear my old pair of rollerblades, which will get rather uncomfortable after a while.

We started to blade at Esplanade and there is a downslope at the place the starting point, where we are going underneath the Esplanade Bridge to cross over to the other side of the road. I was the 1st to go, and it was pretty scary at the 1st try, cos at the end of the slope there is this drain cover, which I thought my wheels might get stuck in between the gaps. In the end there was no such problem and we managed to get through to the other side unscathed (though JX had a bit of struggle before finally going down the slope).

We skated for a few rounds in Esplanade Park before going all the way down to The Promenade (to the stretch opp Boat Quay, which is not too far away actually) and back. By the time we went back to Esplanade, its around 1 hour plus later and we decided to call it a day.

Hmm.... not a bad idea to have a nice little workout on a friday evening!

Chicken Rice... eventually

Wednesday is supposed to be chicken rice day, i.e. we'll usually go for the chicken rice stall at Adelphi... but somehow today everyone was quite nua to go... Drag and drag until about 1230, when JL ask whether me and JX wanna 'da bao' chicken rice. But at that point of time, i was on the phone, so wasn't able to give JL a clear verbal answer (but i thought my gesture shown otherwise...). Anyway, when I hung up my phone, JX and JL said they did not order for me... arghh... In the end have to ask RT to buy lunch for me...

Anyway, maybe its good that I did not eat chicken rice at lunch after all. Cos later on, I was having chicken rice for dinner! Me, ET, HT and LW went to a cafe/coffeeshop at Purvis Street for dinner. This is my 1st time there, and found that the whole street was full of furniture shops and eateries (hmm... do they go together?)... The food was not bad but the distance of the shop from office was somewhat far...

More to come later... :)

Dinner at Bugis

Met SY and AJ for dinner at Bugis Junction on Tuesday evening. We went to a Japanese restaurant (cannot remember the name liao) for dinner. To say the service was rather inefficient is an understatement... needed at least 2-3 calls for orders, another 2-3 calls before getting wasabi... is this worth the 10% service charge that was paid for?

Anyway back to our dinner, SY was commenting on the people and the working lifestyle here in Singapore. SY had worked in the US before coming here. He had some misgiving about working here initially as he had heard that the people here are unfriendly. At least this perception has changed after spending around half a year in this country. But one thing he could not stand was the long working hours, especially at ECQ. He could tolerate long working hours, but not working until 4am in the morning and coming back to work in the morning the next day (don't think I'd be able to stand that as well)...

Went Starbucks after dinner for a second round of chat. We talked about almost everything under the sun. But to be precise, I was more of a listener, only giving comments as and when it was appropriate...

SY will be leaving for Philippines on Sunday, so not sure when will we be able to meet up again... He'd like to meet up for rollerblading cos he has this habit of blading once a year (which i think is quite strange?!), and this year is almost coming to an end.

Busy Weekend...

Poor me... Its been a busy weekend for me as I went back to office on both saturday and sunday... Sometimes i wonder why do I work so hard, but I guess I'm just being responsible to both myself and my teammates... Trying to complete all he task on schedule is not easy, but I think with perserverance, it can be done. One thing good about going back to office to work is that I'll not get to roam around and spent money unnecessarily... But still, I don't think its a good idea to work everyday...

Anyway, AJ made a surprise appearance in the office on Saturday, although not totally unexpected. We played a round of pool to take a break from my work. And after work, we went to Delifrance @ Capitol for TB, along with JX and ET. Then JX went to meet her bf, and the 3 of us bought sandwich, made our way down to the Merlion park, where we consumed our dinner. We sat for a while, talked a bit, then went home... At least a break away from work is good...

The Taxi Driver's at it again

Work til quite late yesterday, so as usual took a cab home... some of the taxi drivers are quite chatty, while others got a bit of attitude problem (see my previous entry)... but this one is quite amusing...

The 1st thing he said, in a typical singapore-style English (aka Singlish), after i stepped onto the cab was:"Young man, when you work ah, you must have a target. If hor, you think you can't reach your target, then you better zao liao (run away)..."

Then he went on and on at how Singapore, as a developed country, still cannot provide everyone with a decent income, to at least sustain a basic standard of living. This is in comparison of other developed country such as Australia. Then he said that his daughter had migrated to Australia and how she was able to send back a substantial amount of money whilst working as a sales manager over there.

Before long, he started criticizing the Lee regime and their monopoly (you'll probably know who he's referring to bah)... like how SME cannot compete with government linked companies and all the taxpayers' money went into their pockets... I got a feeling that this driver really dun like the Lee family...

Anyway, looking forward to see if the next time I board a taxi, the driver can amuse me as much... (oh but that means i'll be working until very late again... sianz...)

A day to be Forgotten...

Watched the show "Forgotten" today... and while i'm writing this entry right now, i have really "forgotten" what i had watch already... hehe...

This show is making me scratching my head (probably should have taken the decision to watch "Shark Tales" instead)... Still need me to think so much on a public holiday... Think i shall not disclose the plot for the benefits of those who have not watch and wanted to watch this show. But i seriously don't recommend it though (wait for "The Incredibles" to come out bah)...

PS: For some other reasons, this is really a day to be forgotten as well...

Birthday Celebration

For those who know me, it's definitely not celebrating my birthday la... It's for celebrating AJ's birthday @ KFC Funan (oh... what a place to do it!) along with me, SM, JX, ET, JL and HJB on Friday night... It was meant to be a surprised for her...

We all had our dinner first before the cake was brought out... After a customary singing of birthday song, making wishes, photo taking etc etc, the fun begins... (think i should not disclose too much details here, those interested to know can ask me personally, hehe...)

We gave her a Garfield soft toy, which was quite appropriate because her nickname is Garfield (come up by JL?)...

Everyone went home happy i guess, which is a good way to end the week... :)

Window Shopping

Surprised that I went window shopping yesterday after work... Knock-off at 7 plus yesterday and went to library @ Orchard. And since I was in Orchard, and don't feel like going home yet, decided to walk around the area...

I was literally looking through the display window of almost every single shop that I went pass... Well, I always don't like the idea of going shopping without a purpose... Pefhaps this time I had something to buy on my mind...

Walked from Orchard MRT down to Centrepoint and back... but did not get anything... And decided to call it a day...

PS: By the end of the session yesterday, I still can't understand why people and just go window shopping without buying anything...

What's with myself?

I'm always one who's waiting for things to happen... If it ain't going to happen, i'm not the one who's gonna make it happen... Somehow this has served me well over the years...

I dun think so much, dun plan so much... dats why i've no worries, just take it by the day... As the saying goes, we'll cross the bridge when we come to it... Is this good or bad, you be the judge...

Hmmm... don't even know what am i writing or why am i writing this... maybe it's because i still havent recover from my flu.. the brain cell(s) still cannot function properly...

(hopefully can still be sick til friday, so that can take MC on that day... :P)

The Aftermath of KTV

Perhaps due to lack of sleep or another, started to feel a bit sick on thursday... Maybe i've sang too much the previous day, and now was feeling something funny down at my throat (it was an indication of what was to come)...

Finally took MC on friday, but only for half a day... Think it was the 1st time in over a year that i went to the doc, if i remembered correctly. When I reached home from office, it was around 1pm and all the clinics near my home were breaking for lunch -_-... So i've got no choice but to go home 1st... But at least now I have the time to run through all my recorded TV drama... Then went to the clinic at about 230pm, which was a good time because the Dr only returned to the clinic around that time (FYI, clinic resume service at 2pm).

Anyway that day took a well-deserved rest... Slept through the night for more than 8 hours for the 1st time in dunno how long liao... :)

KTV Session

It was on wednesday night... It was after dinner at Moonriver with AJ, JX, SM, JL and ET. Was supposed to be a farewell dinner for AJ, but i considered it as a normal dinner with friends, chatting while eating...

Then ET suggested going for a drink afterwards. Somehow or another, we ended up at K-box in the end, with me, AJ, JX and ET. It was an impromtu suggestion (forgot who suggested liao)...

I always like KTV session, and i sang until 'shi sheng' (lost my voice la)... Not sure if I hogged the mic (guess i did)... hehe... Anyway, the session lasted til 2+ (woohoo... still gotta work the next day), before going home and concussed... :D

What's with the taxi driver?

After a long day of work, was feeling so sianz and wanted to get home asap... Decided to call a cab and waited at the main entrance of my office building as usual (the crucial part is that my office building is situated at the corner of a cross-junction)...

As I waited and waited, no sign of my cab coming... Minutes ticked by and as I was about to call back to the Cablink call centre, the taxi driver called on my hp...

In a not-so-friendly tone of voice, he asked where I was. I conveyed my exact location, and at the same time caught sight of the cab... As I was entering the cab, the driver started mumbling that he was waiting at the other side of the building and commented that I should have told the operator my location clearly... I was like what the ****....

Then I told him that I made my booking with the system without going through any operator and that I was waiting at the main entrance of the builing all along... We were almost like arguing where the main entrance of the building is, when I decided there is no point arguing anymore (hey, I wouldn't want to provoke him since he's the one on the wheel)...

Well, none of this happened in the 10 times or so that I called a cab before today... At least some of the previous drivers bothered to call me to check on my exact location... Perhaps this time I should be more vocal and voice this incident to the Taxi company concerned...

Together we fall (literally)

It's back to work on monday after the weekends, and as usual, was feeling the blues...

I was working in the core team of this project which consist of 3 members (incl myself). Coincidentally, all 3 of us met with a minor accident of some sort over the weekends. And the best part is, we all carry open wounds on the same parts on our body, i.e. just above the left elbow...

Will probably take a picture to commemorate this... :P
